I
installed a 3.5mm socket to plug in an MP3 player. Mostly this is for
the passenger DJ's, I don't care if I have music when I ride alone. You
need three things to do the install: a powerlet L-bracket (with spacer
washer) ($16) and an aquatic flush mount 3.5mm aux input ($9). The hole on the L-bracket needs to be enlarged, I used a dremel with a sanding drum. It is made of aluminum, so a grinding stone will just clog up. I put a coat of paint on the exposed metal, I doubt that it was necessary though. Routing the cable through the frame is an easy job, there is a space right near where the plug is mounted. Now we have an issue, all of the panel mount 3.5mm plugs terminate in RCA connections, presumably so you can plug into a stereo. We want to plug into another 3.5mm plug. You could buy an RCA to 3.5mm adaptor for a couple of bucks, I replace the RCA plugs with a male 3.5 plug instead, bring your soldering skills. You will want some 1/16" shrink tube if you go this route, there are some small wires in there. Plug it in, and away you go! Takes about an hour and costs less than $30. ![]() OK, that's a crummy pic, but all three sets of batteries for the camera were dead, so they had to charge while I did the install. Now let's test it out with a little blues from the local college radio station ![]() The finished product ![]() | |||||
