Following instructions from the FJR Forum, along with some ideas of my own, I installed an Audiovox cruise control on the mighty Feej. There are several possibilities for mounting places for the servo, but none of the suited me. After all the work done on the wiring I was insistent on keeping the tool tray untouched, and I also wanted to keep the engine part unencumbered. So I found a spot in the frame behind the transmission that it would fit into

The cruise fits in there nicely, with a little customization of the mounting bracket that comes with it. Well, to get it mounted you will need to remove at least the tool tray and the rear shock. When I mounted mine I already had the airbox and tank off for mounting the PDB. You feed the cruise in from the left side of the frame under the shock tower, those three bolts sticking down hold the hard/soft switch for the shock, and as I found out they are sharp!

It's a tight fit, but the cruise will go through there (if you remove enough stuff)! Conveniently enough the wiring from the frame is passing right by this spot, so the cruise is easily wired into the loom. Now we need a vacuum reservoir. There is still a lot of space under there, so why not put the reservoir down here. Go ahead and get yourself a fuel filter with a tab on it
filter
I had to bend one of the tubes to get the angles right for the vacuum line, mock it up before you install! Any opportunity to work with fire. Get all of your tubes on there before you put the filter in the frame, you won't be able to get them on once the filter is in there.

Now you need to mount the filter on the frame. If you look down into the rear shock tower you will notice two small holes, perfect for mounting. The problem (like that is the only one with this install) is that the holes are hard to get to. You do have some medical isntruments in your tool box, right?
getting the nut on
it also pays to have long arms, since you bring your right arm in through the space where the cruise went in, and reach over the top of the frame with your left arm to hold the clamp.
Here is a shot of the filter and cruise in place, the bolt that we threaded using the surgical clamps is visible but blurry.

If you want to use anything other than the stock tail lights with the AVCC then you are going to wire the brake light through a relay, and then to the CC. Since you have the bike all apart already, there is a convenient spot beneath the tool tray, that is nicely close to the yellow brake wire running up the left side of the frame.
relays
The red loop of wire you see there will be used to power an LED brake lamp bar, through a back-off module from signal dynamics. Get the XP model the works with incandescent and LED bulbs. You can also see the other red wire that  ties into the brake light wire. The other wires power various doo-dads that I can't even recall  now.
Some of the wiring that runs through the frame run to two switches (thanks BrunDog) in the handlebar that are the cruise on and off (bottom) and the accel/decel/resume
switches
The green and red boxes outline the mounting posts for the V-Strom hand guards, the two switches are on the right.

So what is the result of all this work? An install that you can barely tell is there, and more importantly this:

a tool tray that you can fill with tools! Here is my air compressor and tire repair tools, you can also see where the Autocom is mounted. Ignore the red oval, I was showing someone on the forum how to adjust their seat.
