I
modified a Harbor Freight tire changer with motorcycle attachment to
work easier and better. The first thing I did was to remove the post
that comes on the base of the changer to hold the motorcycle
attachment, and then I drilled a hole through the two to put a bolt
through them. Then it is time to "fix" the clamps on the motorcycle
attachment. HDPE blocks were added all around the clamps to make them
non-marring:![]() The front and back blocks are attached using the through bolt circled in black. The top of the outside block as attached using a bolt through the tang on the clamp: ![]() ![]() Next I fabbed up a new bead breaker from some 1 1/2" box steel tubing. The 1 1/2 is a bit too small for the receptacle so I add some shims to the base to make a better fit. Then remove the bead breaker that comes with the tire changer from the base: ![]() ![]() I was using the grinder to get the fit of the shims just right, Cooper doesn't like it. I cover the spade on the breaker with undercoating to help prevent scratching, it works OK. The last part is to make a base for the Mark Parnes balancer, doing the balancing on the floor is back breaking. ![]() ![]() ![]() Note that I ended up removing the clamps from the balancer, they just didn't work. The summit sticker is on there so I know which side faces the garage door, that keeps the posts level! I have changed a couple of tires on it, and the new setup is a huge improvement over the original, it works very nicely. | |||||
